Popular hardware

Based on our personal experience with various PC hardware componets we think that these are the best computer hardware components with the best price/performance ratio so far in 2012:

CPU

Intel Core i5-3570K LGA1155
The Ivy Bridge is the third generation of Intel Core CPUs and it slowly replace the previous generation - the Sandy Bridge processors. Intel Core i5-3570K is the most affordable Ivy Bridge CPU for gamers. The Intel Core i5 3750K is a better choice than Core i7 3770K from a price/performance point of view, because the performance difference was not noticeable in many games I played, and the Intel Core i5 3750K fairly cheaper.

CPU Cooler

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo has a multiple socket support.
It supports all Intel LGA 775/1155/1156/1366/2011 CPUs and Socket AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1 AMD CPUs.
It offers excellent compatibility and flexibility. Installation is pretty easy and can be done in less than 5 minutes. There are multiple retention brackets included.
This Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler is really quiet. Also, the temperature of my Intel Core i5-2400 processor overclocked to 3.9 GHz (the default clock speed is 3.1 GHz) under full load temperature was below 130 F. When using the stock cooler I was seeing temperatures of 198 F to 202 F and the i5-2400 was overclocked to 3.3GHz only.

Motherboard

Asus P8Z77-M Pro LGA1155
The ASUS P8Z77-M PRO is relatively inexpensive motherboard Micro ATX motherboard based on a high-performance Intel Z77 Express chipset. It supports all Intel Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge Intel LGA 1155 CPUs. The ASUS P8Z77-M PRO motherboard have four DIMM slots supporting up to 32GB DDR3 memory.
This motherboard have two SATA 6 Gb/s and four SATA 3 Gb/s ports. The graphics can be handled by the integrated graphics processor (IGP), or a discrete graphics card/s placed in any of three PCI Express x16 slots, (two slots are PCI Express 3.0). Note that the new product supports all the latest technology Multi-GPU (AMD CrossFireX / NVIDIA SLI / LucidLogix Virtu Universal MVP), that allows to combine the computing capabilities of multiple graphics adapters.
The main advantages of the ASUS P8Z77-M PRO motherboard are listed below:
  • ASUS DIGI + VRM 6 +2 phase power system voltage stabilization
  • TPU for EPU technologies for overclocking of system components and energy efficiency in general
  • MemOK! technology solves the problems with incompatible memory modules or when the memory modules are pushed above their limit
  • USB 3.0 Boost technology increases the data transfer speed of the USB 3.0 interface up to 170%
  • Fan Xpert + technology - internal fan control

Graphics Card

HIS 7850 2GB GDDR5

The HIS 7850 Fan 2 GB features a proprietary cooling system. The level of noise from the cooler does not exceed 28 dB. The components of the video card work at the reference frequency. The frequency of the graphic core is 860 MHz and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory is running at 1200 MHz (4800 MHz effectively).
The package includes iTurbo software which allows you to control voltage, frequency, and the fan speed. The HIS 7850 Fan 2 GB graphics card have mini-Display Port, HDMI and Dual-link DVI-I Video outputs, which allows you to simultaneously connect multiple monitors. Other features include the new PowerTune and ZeroCore Power technologies anf CrossFire, Eyefinity, HD3D, standards support for DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.2 and PCI Express 3.0.

Memory

G.SKILL RipjawsZ 16GB (4x4GB) CL9 1866MHz DDR3
G.Skill (F3-14900CL9Q-16GBZL) is a DDR3 memory kit with four modules of 4GB memory. The memory operates at a default clock speed of 1866MHz, and with a peak data rate 14900MB/s. Each Memory Module has a CL9 memory timing parameter, which means the latency value is equal to 9. The CAS latency is the first and most important parameter in the timings (9-10-9-28) and it specifies the number of cycles between supplying a column address and receiving the corresponding data.
Technical specifications:
  • Series: RipjawsZ, 4x4GB memory modules
  • Memory type: DDR3 SDRAM PC3-14900
  • Effective frequency: 1866 MHz
  • Memory timings: 9-10-9-28
  • Operating voltage: 1.5V
  • heat spreaders: yes, (improves the heat distribution)
  • EPP Support: no
  • Buffering: Unbuffered
  • Form factor: 240-pin DIMM memory

SSD

OCZ Vertex4 SATA III

The main feature of the OCZ Vertex 4 SATA III solid state drive is consistent bandwidth of up to 535 MB/s, a maximum of up to 120,000 IOPS in random access mode, and provides 95,000 IOPS in random read mode (4K) and 85,000 IOPS in random write mode for incompressible data. Also, the OCZ Vertex 4 SSD has a minimum read latency of up to 0.04 ms and 0.02 ms for write operations, thus providing about 80% improvement over Vertex 3 solid state drives. The overall performance of OCZ Vertex 4 SSD is up to 400% better than the performance of OCZ Vertex 3 SSD series.

Case

Zalman Z11 Plus
The Z11 Plus is an improved version of the popular Zalman Z9 PC case. The Zalman Z11 Midi-Tower case dimensions are 260 (W) x 498 (H) x 525 (D) mm.
You can put up to five hard disk drives in the Zalman Z11 Plus case.
The case is very stylish with an unusual, yet very good design.

Power supply

Antec High Current Gamer HCG-620M Watt

The Antec High Current Gamer HCG-620M power supply has four +12 V rails, capable of withstanding the maximum load to support the latest graphics cards and processors. Power supplies have Japanese capacitors, which provides maximum stability and DC control.
Power supply cables, including connectors, all painted black (Stealth Wires), which minimizes their visibility within the body inside and 10-pin modular connectors provide excellent opportunities for the various options for connecting the system components (High Current Flexibility).
